How Jade races

For three quarters of a descent Jade is heavy, unhurried and going backwards. Then the final quarter arrives and something switches: the drag lifts, the eyes open, and Jade comes through the field at a speed it has not shown all race. It is the most reliably thrilling final five seconds on the grid.

The eyes open, and everything Jade has been saving for twenty seconds is spent at once.

What it costs

The deficit is real and it is paid up front. Jade genuinely is slower for three quarters of the race — if the descent is short, or the field spreads early, the last quarter arrives with too much ground left to make up.

The tell

Lids that sit half-closed the entire race and then open over twenty frames at the trigger. Once you know to watch for it, you can call a Jade charge before it starts.
