The Lantern shard that kept the beam rather than the scatter — a single clean line of light, entirely out of step with its own aspect. Frost's three teammates scatter for a living, and Frost regards this as a failure of standards.

How Frost races

Every boost box on the descent gives Frost more than it gives anyone else. On a track with two or three of them, Frost is untouchable, arriving at the finish with the composure fully intact. On a bumper field, the grip goes, the composure goes with it, and the whole thing comes apart in public.

More out of every booster than the rest of the field gets, taken cleanly and without fuss.

What it costs

Bumpers. Frost loses grip specifically there — skidding where everyone else is holding, which is precisely the section a marble built on composure has no answer to.

The tell

The crown tilts. One hard enough hit and it goes to an angle — and it never straightens again for the rest of the race. Composure lost, visibly and permanently.
